Kumar Sanu’s Musical Career
He initially performed under the name Sanu Bhattacharya and worked on Bengali and Bangladeshi film projects. His early career included singing and performing in Kolkata before he moved to Mumbai to pursue opportunities in Hindi cinema. Music personalities Jagjit Singh and Kalyanji-Anandji played important roles in his early Bollywood journey. His professional name was changed to Kumar Sanu, partly reflecting the influence of his idol Kishore Kumar.
Breakthrough with Aashiqui
Kumar Sanu's major breakthrough came with the 1990 musical blockbuster Aashiqui, whose music was composed by Nadeem-Shravan. He sang almost all of the male solo songs on the soundtrack, and the enormous popularity of the album established him as a leading playback singer.
